TripAdviser and affiliates such as vacation-home rental networks HouseTrip and FlipKey have agreed to pay Orange County taxes on stays booked through the sites, the comptroller’s office announced Monday.
The agreement to pay tourist development taxes adds the travel-booking giant to a growing list of platforms that now pay a bed tax to the county in the fast-growing home-share rental market.
TripAdvisor and affiliates started collecting the taxes on Jan. 1 on all Orange County property owners using the platform.
The move comes on the heels of Comptroller Phil Diamond inking a similar deal with HomeAway and its affiliates in December.
